Calories 3 App Reviews
I wish I had read the reviews for version 2.0 before I bought this version. Its difficult to add food. The database doesnt even have non-fat or skim milk listed but has tons of other food items Ive never heard of - certainly nothing found in North America! The app looks impressive until you download it and then you find out its all window dressing and nothing of use in behind. I wish I could get my money back but since I cant, hopefully people reading this will save theirs and go elsewhere.
I set this up to run on my 2 mac computers and iTouch. Initially I had quite a bit of trouble and ended up having to reinstall it on both computers. However, the support given was very thorough and Im VERY happy with how it all works now. Ive tried other calorie counting apps but have been frustrated by their lack of flexibility or their lack of metric support. I live outside of North America so often eat foods that are not on the database. This app allows me to easily enter new foods (even if I dont have the nutrient breakdown), to combine ingredients/meals, and to copy and edit existing foods. There is a bit of a learning curve involved but its worth it! (Very thorough users manual as well.)
Disappointed to find that when adding foods not found in the database, the nutrients must be added in European increments. American food labels list nutrients such as the vitamins and minerals in %. This program requires you to enter the gram, milligram, nanogram, microgram, etc. amount - not easily calculated - too time consuming.
This app has made it so easy to keep track of my intake! Support is wonderful, they answered all my questions quickly. Added the iPhone app Cal2go and now it syncs my intakes on the go. Easy to add custom foods to the already HUGE food data-base. AND are you ready for this… works flawlessly with my WITHINGS scale and cuff. I couldnt be happier with my purchase. Cant wait for the Cal2Go to show-up for the iPad ( hint hint)
An earlier review i read said "password that doesnt exist" is required, but if you read the on screen instructions it clearly says if you dont already have a password just click "OK" (i.e. with a blank password) and that works. Also worth noting, if you cant edit after you pass the password prompt, there is a little button on the bottom of each user data screen which says something like click this to edit the information on this page.. I love that this syncs with fitbit. Among other things, it means that my FitBit Aria Scale weight is auto-synced to this app as well (its a wi fi scale). Also My activity from the fitbit ultra (no longer made, it was replaced by fitbit one) should sync with this too, though i havent used it enough to see where its used. I didnt give it 5 stars at this time because there are some quirks which make data entry difficult, too often it says something like "Multiple checks failed" and i have to force quit (from apple menu) to get out of the program, often losing my unsaved data. i have some faith that these are minor programming problems which with enough encouragement the author could fix.
Easy to get info re what your eating day to day from USDA database - Have tried many other web based appliactions and seem to become too complex - if you just want to track what you eat and what this becomes in Cals, plus all other neutrients this a good program. I think they have fixed EU vs US units problem described in other past version reviews. In fact better over other diet programs now. Would give five starts if they added receips that also show list of ingredients (e.g. for a Vitamix Soup) and make it a "New Food" .. However even as is easy to transfer things from day to days and track any execcise - also monitors withing scales and BP … but seems to have trouble syncing correctly so scale data not always correct weight … Think also needs work on language re Burned Cals - very complex to set targets. Confusing targets vs actual calcualted burned calories. Could be very simple but have made that part almost unusable. I finally gave up. Overall daily data entry is well organized and structured - easy to learn and easy to use … I find the Cal units on food entry actually much better than other similar diet programs…
Im very disappointed is all that I can say. If I could give this a 0 star rating I would. This review is for both this product and the iPhone product Cal2Go, as I purchased them both. I own a FitBit tracking device and wasnt totally happy with the interface. I purchased these products thinking I could sync the FitBit data. I was wrong. Didnt grab any of the FitBit data even though its setup, which also broke the softwares sync between desktop and iPhone apps. I deleted the FitBit link and added it back into both products and sync now works, but it only pulls burned calories from the FItBit so you can only enter food to Calorie 3 or Cal2Go - it does not pull them from the FitBit, as well as activities or anything else. I entered my breakfast in Calorie 3, look ups were worthless so I manually entered the nutritional data as well. At this point the sync between Cal2Go and Calories 3 via its own service added my food to the Cal2Go phone app, but upon exiting Calories 3 I got an error and it lost my food. I synced from the phone and desktop apps to no avail. The entries in Calories 3 are simply gone. I log out and back into the sync tool in Calories 3 and it tells me that I need to set everything back up and to restart the application, which I do. Now I have to reenter all of my personal data to create the user, which would not be a bother if this didnt occurred every time I attempt to log in to the sync service. Yes, each time it tells me it needs to delete everything and this means the sync login setting that causes this lovely condition that reminds me of a infinite loop. I am so irritated! Im taking it as a loss, but Ill leave it installed and see how the next update goes; although, my opinion of Mac software developers and Mac third party products has become so low in the last five years that I am seriously considering switching back to Windows/Linux, and this includes my phone and tablet as well. At least this isnt a store disguised as software, that makes it worth at least 1 star - I guess.
Impossible to get this program running
Waste of money. It has locked up with "muiltiple validation errors" and I did was open after install. I wish I could get my $9.99 back. Buyer Beware.
Wish Id read the reviews
This app is a piece of crap. Worst app Ive ever downloaded, let alone actually pay for.
a total waste of $49 plus the waste of the cost of the ISO app This app will not sink constantly get server error error will not connect to Fitbit highly recommend this app be removed from Apple Store
